What is Covered Under My Dental Plan?

  • Your Dental Plan covers 90% of the cost of basic services which include cleanings, fillings, x-rays, diagnostic, preventative, periodontic and endodontic (root canal) services. A basic cleaning is covered once every 9 months.
  • 60% of the cost of major restorative services such as crowns, caps and bridges is covered. You and each person under your plan are covered up to a maximum of $2,500.

How Can I Know “For Sure” Whether a Procedure is Covered?

In order for you and your dentist to learn in advance how much the Dental Plan will cover and how much you will have to pay, it is recommended that you submit a Treatment Plan to Manulife. A Treatment Plan is a plan of dental treatment (including x-rays if required) showing your dental needs and the proposed treatment necessary in the professional judgment of the dentist. This Treatment Plan identifies coverage and limitations for specific services. Your dentist will know how to submit a Treatment Plan.

What Expenses are Not Covered?

There are some services which are not covered:

  • Orthodontic treatment
  • Dental services or supplies that are primarily for cosmetic dentistry (i.e. full-mouth reconstruction, vertical dimension correction or correction to temporal mandibular joint dysfunction)
  • Replacement of a lost or stolen dental appliance
  • Charges that are considered an insured service of your Provincial Health Insurance Plan Link to an FAQ
  • Dentist’s time spent traveling, broken appointments, transportation costs, room rental charges or advice given by the telephone or any other means of communication

How do I Make a Claim?

Many dentists are able to process your claims online with Manulife, which means that you may not have to submit a paper claim. However, if you need to submit paper claims see How to Submit a Claim for more information.

If you are unsure of coverage, please call Manulife at 1-800-268-6195.
