Helpful Bits of Information

Our intention is to provide you with relevant bits of information to help you better understand your Worker Benefits or to merely provide you with simple tips to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Here is a list of “Did You Knows?” from months past…

Did you know?
New Enrolments and Changes

The procedure for reporting New Enrolments or Changes in Status or Salaries will change on January 1st, 2010 - It is extremely important that you notify the Worker Benefit Plans office within 31 days for all new enrolments, terminations, worker status changes, addition of dependents, salary changes, etc. We will no longer be able to make retro-active adjustments for more than 31 days.

Employee Assistance Program

Your employees and their dependents have access to confidential, professional counselors through their Employee Assistance Program. A network of experienced Counselors, Psychologists, Social Workers and Specialists are ready to assist in issues such as: stress, personal health management, relational matters (marital, parenting, eldercare), depression, anxiety, financial concerns, legal issues, crisis and drug or alcohol abuse.

Travel Insurance (part of Health Coverage)

Your employees (who are enrolled in LCC’s Health plan) have medical coverage while traveling. They can have peace of mind knowing that their benefit plan covers 100% of the cost of medical emergencies (in excess of the Provincial Health Insurance Plan) while they or their covered dependents are traveling outside of Canada (or outside their home province within Canada) for up to 180 days per trip. This coverage costs you, the employer, only $3.58 per month for family coverage.

Defined Contribution Pension Payments

All money for the Defined Contribution component of the Pension Plan must be deducted from the employee’s pay cheque. Participation in the DC plan is voluntary and supplemental to the Defined Benefit part of the LCC Pension Plan which is paid for by the employer only. Government pension regulations require that all funds to the DC plan need to be deposited to the employee’s investment account within 31 days of the payroll deduction. For this reason, employers need to forward the amounts to us (LCC Worker Benefit Plans) within 15 days of being deducted. If you aren’t already doing so, you may want to consider transferring these funds electronically, on a regular basis, by signing up for our EFT service.

Staff Changes?

This is one time of the year when we see many staff changes especially in our Lutheran Schools with the current school year coming to an end.

Please send in any changes by completing the Request for Change form – the sooner, the better - this keeps our records current and billings will not have to be adjusted later.
